SYDNEY, This Day. “The Sydney Morning Herald” commenting on the Derby, says that Nuffield proved, himself the best stayer, and the brilliance ho showed in taking the lead half a mile from the post, and in stalling off the determined Aerolus, emphasised his all-round excellence. The time'which has been excelled only by the great Phar Lap enhanced the merit of Nuffield’s performance. Discussing the savaging incident in the Epsom the “Herald” says that Kings Head contributed to his own defeat by Hamuarh in the last Doncaster by savaging that mare in the finish. On Saturday St. Constant helped Kings Head by savaging Bobby when the latter was at the top of his run. Nightguard was twice kicked before the start, his failure to come on in the straight being consistent with the behaviour of a horse soured hy such happenings. “The Herald” says that Boyal Chief’s victory over Avenger was one of the grandest efforts seen in a weigh t-for-age race at Band wick. Over the last three furlongs Boyal Chief received a series of checks and a furlong from the post seemed to he hemmed in hopelessly, Imt after being pulled practically to his haunches and taken wide Bnval Chief, with a brilliant spurt caught Avenger and won decisively.
