MAN OVERBOARD.

I PROMPT RESCUE EFFECTED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 30. The cry of “Man overboard!” rang through the Mariposa, as she approached Pago Pago on the way to Auckland. A bell-boy liad gone overboard in some way, but he was seen in the water, and the vessel was stopped in time for a boat to be lowered, and a rescue was affected. The boy was left at Pago Pago. A passenger stated that they were at breakfast when it was noticed that the ship’s engines had stopped. They were a day and a half from Pago Pago. „ A member of the crew had seen the bell-boy fall and raised the alarm. The sea was fairly choppy, and it was difficult to locate the man. Tito boats were lowered, and the second one found him. He did not yseeni to have suffered greatly. The ship was stopped for about two hours. “Some luck,” said another passenger. “He was in the water for an hour and a quarter in a shark-infested area.”
