mid-canterbury seat. MR HERRING’S CAMPAIGN. TWO MEETINGS LAST NIGHT. Mr H. E. Herring, Labour candidate for Mid-Canterbury, addressed a good meeting at Pendarves last evening, the audience totalling 30. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded by acclamation. Mr T. W. Ironside presided. Mi- Herring addressed an audience of 100 at Dorie last evening, dealing with Government legislation. The meeting was enthusiastic and a motion of thanks was passed by acclamation. Mr Sid Gardener presided. NATIONAL CANDIDATE’S MEETINGS. Mr. Arthur N. Grigg, the National candidate, continued his campaign last evening, when he addressed meetings at Brookside and Dunsandel. Mr Grigg dealt extensively with the principles of the Government and National parties and outlined the policy of his party. / He was listened to attentively at each meeting and was accorded enthusiastic votes of thanks. The Brookside meeting of 45 electors was presided over by Mr T. W. Brooks, the mover and seconder of the motion of thanks being Messrs J. Bong and H. J. Hight. At Dunsandel the attendance was over 130. Mr C. Smith occupied the chair and Mr D. W. Westenra moved the motion of thanks, which was supported by Mr 0. Sheat. MR A. S. LYONS AT HORORATA. * Mr A. S. Lyons, Independent candidate for Mid-Canterbury, addressed electors at Hororata last night and was given an attentive hearing. Mr Oliver presided. A vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. NATIONAL PARTY CONCERT. A capacity house filled the Tinwald Town Hall on Tuesday evening, when a variety concert and a dance was held, in the interests of the National Party. The chairman was Mr J. Lowery. Items were given as follow: —Pianoforte solo, Miss Gwen Woods; violin solo, Mr Theo. Staples; vocal solo, Mesdames Hoglund and C. O’Keefe; tap dance, Miss Joan Sheehan; Irish reel, Misses Shirley James, Betty Fowke, Margaret Chambers, and Joan Sheehan; piano accordion, Mr C. Hansen; musical monologue, Miss Mary Taylor; bagpipe solo, Mr G. Robertson; elocutionary item, Miss Joan Sheehan ; one-act play, Mrs S. H. lull and party sketch, Mr and Mrs S. H. Bill. At the conclusion of the concert Mr and Mrs A. N. Grigg arrived, and were most enthusiastically received. Mr Grigg gave a brief address, and Mrs Grigg also spoke. Mr S. H. Lill moved a vote of thanks to the speakers, and wished Mr Grigg every success in his campaign. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee, and music, for the dance was supplied by Mr R. Ford (Eiffelton). THE TEMUKA ELECTORATE MR J. A. KEARTON’S CAMPAIGN Mr H. C. Patterson (chairman of the school committee) presided at a meeting held in the Eiffelton School on Thursday evening, when Mr A. J. Kearton, Labour candidate for the Temuka Electorate outlined to a large audience the guaranteed price scheme and spoke brieflly on sections of the social security Act, in relation to Friendly Societies. He answered many questions, concluding his remarks by asking electors, to make a decision for the betterment of the whole community on polling day. A vote of thanks for his interesting address, moved by Mr iH. Lill and seconded by Mr R. Lattimore, was carried with acclamation. Mr Kearton addressed a well-attend-ed meeting in thie Waterton Hall, the same evening. The chairman was Air J. H. Papworth. Mr Kearton was greeted with applause. He briefly mentioned several items of legislation and read extracts from, the manifestoes of both political parties. Several questions were answered. A vote of thanks for his interesting address, moved by Mr Read and seconded by Mr. Emery, Avas enthusiasticaly responded to. NOMINATIONS LODGED.
