STATE HOUSES.

ELEVEN MORE FOR ASHBURTON. NELSON STREET SECTIONS BOUGHT. Sections fronting on Nelson Street, in Hampstead, have been purchased from. Mr J. T. Pratley by the; State Housing Department, and it is the intention to build eleven houses there, according to advice received by Mr H. E. Herring from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Housing (Mr J. A. Lee).

This will make a total of 59 State houses lor Ashburton. There are 24 in the Netherby group (nearly all of them occupied), 24 will be built on the block at the corner of Beach Road and Cambridge Street (tenders' for half these have already been accepted), and the new purchase of land tfill complete the total of 59. There are ten sections on the block in Nelson Street, but as four of them are large in size it is intended to place five houses on that portion. Space for a new road running on to Nelson Street has been reserved. The Borough Council is at present running a three-inch water main to link up with the newlyacquired sections, and a cross-piece is going in opposite the site of the new road. MORE LAND PURCHASED. WELLINGTON, September 30. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Housing (Mr J.
