ACHIEVEMENT DAY

PROPOSAL BY A.C.E. COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES OF THE TUTOR. ’ Arrangements fpr a proposed achievement day on November 22 for all organisations in the Ashburton districts which have taken part in lecture demonstrations or classes held under the auspices of the Association of Country Education this year, were made at n meeting of the advisory committee of the Association yesterday afternoon. The organiser of A.C.E. work (Miss B. Macmillan) presided, and others present were Mrs F. Curtis (Central Mid-Canterbury), Mrs J. AV. AVatson (Rakaia-Chertsey), Mrs J. McQuilkin (South-east Mid-Canterbury), Mrs Harrison (Mayfield), Mrs F. Johnson (Women’s Division), Mrs M. A. Constable and Miss R. Robins. The achievement-day function will take the form of a display of work, while reports on the year’s activities will also be received. Each women’s institute or division of the Farmers’ Union will be asked to prepare a. report on its service from the Association during the year, and to submit it to a conference of delegates. After the reports have been discussed, proposals for further work in the County by the Association will he considered, and possibly tentative arrangements will be made for the continuance of the activities of a resident tutor next year. Conveners of sub-committees to organise the social afternoon on the achievement day were appointed as follow: Decorative, Mrs F. Curtis; entertainments, Mrs M. A. Constable; afternoon tea, Mrs E. A. Amos; exhibit and displays, Miss R. Robins. The treasurers will be Mesdames J. Gregory and G. M. Breeze.

Invitations will be extended to provincial officials and those likely to be interested in seeing the display. The Tutor’s Report. During the last two months 20 lectures had been given and 21 classes had been held, reported Miss Robins, making a total of 75 and 77 respectively for the year. The sum of £l9 15s had been paid in, taking the total up to £94. Tile report was favourably received, and the committee expressed satisfaction that the desired quota toward the Association’s funds was in sight.
