MR CHAMBERLAIN LEAVES.
ROUSING FAREWELL IN LONDON ALL THE CABINET PRESENT. LONDON, September 29. Mr Chamberlain left the Heston airport for Munich at 8.35 a.m. Through morning mist redolent with the promise of fine weather and happier times, Mr Chamberlain tool? off after a farewell unparalleled in history, with cries of “Godspeed,” and tumultuous cheering re-echoing long after his aeroplane disappeared over the horizon.
A surprise feature was tli£ presence of all the members of the Cabinet, who had secretly arranged last night to assemble at the airport at 7.30 a.m. From Downing Street all the way to the airport, thousands of cheering men and women assembled shortly after dawn. Early workers, clerks, typists, and office boys gathered at Whitehall. Only a few police were present when Mr Chamberlain opened the door of No. 10 and emerged arm in arm with his wife, who was smiling and talking in animated fashion. A spontaneous cheer rose up and echoed through Westminster. The Prime Minister smiled broactiy, embraced his wife, and stepped into his car to the accompaniment of a renewal of wild cheers and qries of "good old Chamberlain,” "Keep it up mate.” As he drove away, followed by three cars, containing liis advisers, he glanced to the Foreign Office where workmen were busy sandbagging tno buildings.
At Heston Mr Chamberlain said: "When I was a litle bey I used to repeat, ‘lf at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.’ That is what I am doing. When I get back I hope to be able to say like Hotspur in ‘Henry the Fourth’: ‘Out of this nettle, danger, we pluck this flower, safety.” M. Daladier arrived at Munich at 11.15 a.m. Signor Mussolini arrived at 10.50 a.m.
VISITORS GOING HOME. EVERY PLANE BOOKED AHEAD (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, September 29. In addition to the maintenance of all normal Empire services, Imperial Airways have duplicated some schedules between England ancl Egypt to meet the exceptional demand from persons anxious to return to their homes. Every piano for Australia is booked out until the end of October.
