CHILLY AND OVERCAST TO-DAY. The sky was overcast for the greater part of the day in Ashburton and a chilly wind blew from the north-east. Conditions were fine but cold yesterday when the maximum neadmg of the thermometer was 55 degrees. The minimum temperature was 43 degrees. The barometer stood at 29.98 inches yesterday." TO-DAY’S FORECAST, (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— An anti-cyclone is still centred over the northern extremity of the Dominion and has intensified somewhat. Pressure is, however, falling over south-eastern Australia and across the south Tasman sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate north-easterly winds in coastal areas, elsewhere moderate but freshening northerlies to north-wester-lies. Weather fair to cloudy, temperatures rising. Seas slight to moderate.
