THE MID-CANTERBURY SEAT. MR 11. E. HERRING’S MEETINGS. \ Mr H. E. Herring, Labour candidate for Mid-Canterbury, addressed a wellattended mooting at To Pirita last ovening, speaking on the Government’s legislation. At the conclusion, Mr C. Cameron moved a vote of thanks for his address, and this was carried by acclamation. Mr D. Inge presided. There was also a good attendance at Mr Herring’s meeting held in the Mead School. The speaker was heartily thanked on a motion moved by Mr W. Shellock, seconded by Mr A. Roberts', -i was carried unanimously. Mr Brady presided. THE NATIONAL PARTY. WOMEN’S RALLY IN ASHBURTON. There were 250 women present at a most enthusiastic National Party rally in Ashburton last evening. Mrs E. Ruddock presided, and introduced the speakers, Mrs Aeland and Mrs A. N. Grigg. Both speakers were given an attentive hearing. They dealt with some aspects of the Social Security Bill, Mrs Aeland making special reference to the medical service side. Mr A. A. McDonald (chairman of the executive of the National Party for the County) also spoke. , A hearty vote of thanks, moved by the president, was carried unanimously. ADDRESS BY MRS McKAY. An enthusiastic public meeting was held in the Memorial Hall, Wakanur, last evening to hear an address from Mrs W. McKay, Christchurch, Women’s.Organiser for Canterbury in the interests of the National Party. Mrs T. S. Taylor (chairman of the Wakanui Women’s Committee of the National Party presided. Airs McKay gave an address touching upon the main political questions of the day, fluently attacking the actions of the Labour Government and placing before electors the platform advanced by the National Party to overcome the present socialistic legislation. The speaker impressed upon the meeting that the National Party had no intention of cutting wages, lengthening hours of work o>r reducing pensions. She dis-alt at length with the present political position as it affected women. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs A. N. Grigg arrived from a meeting that had been held in. Ashburton, and was received with enthusiasm. She shortly addressed thie meeting thinking them for their reception and the support they were giving her husband in his candidature. A hearty vote of thanks to the speakers and performers was moved by Mrs E. M. Begg and carried by acclamation. The function concluded with supper supplied by the ladies of the district and a dance. Items were given by Misses Joyce and Rose Denley (piano duet), Miss Nadine Parsons (song), Miss Peggy Robertson (recitation), Mr Baynes (violin solo), Mrs C. Parsons (song), Miss Erin Parsons (recitation), Miss Peggy Robertson (tap dance), Mr C. Brand (song), blisses R. Chamberlain and A. Ruddock (humorous sketch). The accompaniste was Mrs H. J. Chapman. MR A. S. LYONS AT DUNSANDEL. Mr A. S. Lyons, Independent candidate for Mid-Canterbury, addressed a well-attended meeting at Dunsandel last evening. He was accorded an attentive hearing and given a hearty vote of thanks at the conclusion.
