HOCKEY
TOURNAMENT AT METHVEN. MEN’9 AND WOMEN'S MATCHES. Fifty-eight teams representing clubs in many parts of Canterbury took part in the annual hockey tournament hold at Met liven on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Ashburton Women’s Hockey Association. Grounds were hard and fast, after the recent fine weather and consequently many bright displays of hockey wore seen in all sections. Some players showed carelessness which was excusable because of the lateness of the season. Matches were run continuously throughout the ni’ternooon, and the men’s competition was completed in the dusk. Results were as follows: — Men’s Matches. The referees were Messrs C. Franklin, A. Graham, N. Cutler, A. Taylor, Grammar, F. lggo, E. Rogers, J. Hookings and K. Hamilton (all ot Christchurch), and A. C. Vincent, and C. Bishop (Ashburton). Presentation of Prizes. The dance and presentation of prizes organised by the Methven Women’s Hockey Club in the evening was attended by nearly 500 hockey enthusiasts from all parts of. Canterbury. Trophies were presented by Mr C. Franklin (president of the Canterbury Women’s Hockey Associaton), assisted by Mrs G. Johns (president of the Methven Club) and Mr Johns (secretary), as follows: —Bennett Cup for women’s senior A section, Hornby; Methven Tournament Cup for women’s senior B section, Rawhiti; Owen Shield, for women’s junior section, Methven A; Halliday Cap for men’s senior A section Redclift’s B; Methven Tournament Cup for men’s senior B section Sydenham A; Methven Tournament Cap for men’s junior section.
