THE LONDON WOOL SALES. ACTIVE COMPETITION. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 23. At the w T ool sales 8479 bales were offered, including 3630 New Zealand, and 7346 were sold. Good selection met active competition. Crossbreds and slipes are now at par to 5 per cent, above the rates at the close of the last series, and others are firmly maintained. New Zealand greasy merino, Riclimondbrook, sold at 12£d to 13d. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office under date 'September 23: Sales continue with very strong market. Greasy crossbreds show hardening tendency. Current quotations for wools of average condition are: —Merinos: Super, 60-64’s, 14d to 14Jd per lb; ordinary, 60-64’s, 12d to 13d; inferior, 60-64’s, to lOd. Halfbreds —56-58’s, 12d, to 12)d per lb; 56’s, lljd to 12d; 50-56’s, 10|d to lljd. Crossbreds —50’s, 10|d to 10. id per lb ; 48-50’s, lOd to 10}d; 46-48’s, 9|d to 10id; 44-46’s, 9fd to 10R1; 40-44’s, 9fd to 10’jd; 36-10’s, 9|d. to 10R1.
