SHIPS COLLIDE
ACCIDENT AT SYDNEY. LARGE FREIGHTER IS BEACHED. GAPING HOLE IN HER SIDE. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. When the Blue Star motor freighter Sydney Star, of 11,095 tons, and the Australian Inter-State freighter Macumba, of 2526 tons, came into collision in Sydney Harbour late last night, the Sydney Star was so badly damaged amidships that the engine-room filled with water, and the vessel had to be beached. The Macumba. was holed above the water-line, and was able to reach the wharf.
The Sydney Star is lying in several feet of water, about 200 yards offshore at Rose Bay, with a gaping hole in her side.
