ST. JAMES THEATRE. “BLUEBEARD’S EICHTH WIFE.” “Bluebeard’s Eighth Wile,'' an excellent romantic comedy, starring Claudette Colbert and Cary Cooper, will complete its run at tlx l St. dames Theatre this evening. The inside workings of machine politics move the plot of the new Paramount drama, “Dangerous to Know.” which stars its run to-morrow evening, and which will he screened again on Wednesday. Akim TamirofF, the popular character player, has an unusual role as a- political ringmaster who bends a town to his will hut is repulsed and finally destroyed by a beautiful young socialite with whom he lulls in love. Gail Patrick and Anna May Wong, along with Tamiroff, head an outstanding cast which includes Lloyd Nolan, Harvel Stephens, Anthony Quinn and Itoscoe Ivarns. The supporting programme includes: A Musical, a. Sportlight, Cartoon. Screen Sing, and British Paramount News. SCOTTISH SOCIETY DANCE. The Ashburton County Scottish Society held its usual dance pn Saturday night, when there was a very large attendance. Music was supplied by Cook’s Orchestra. Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr and Mrs Casey, and Airs A. Cates and Air E. Leask. Extras were played by Airs T. AlcGregor, Alessrs G. Chilton, A.' Dolphin, and R. AVilliamsson. The masters of ceremonies were Air T. AlcGregor and Air G. Chilton. DANCE AT RADIANT HALL. The dance at the Radiant Hall on Saturday night was a successful function, there being a very large attendance. The visitors included football teams.from Beckenham (Christchurch). The finalists of the one-night guinea cash Alontc Carlo were Miss Gourdie and Air Lynn, Aliss Steel and Air Wethen, Aliss Thompson and Air Alann, Aliss Flynn and, Mr Connell. Aliss Livingstone and Air Rattray, Air Upton and Aliss Aiorton, Aliss J). White and Air Blues. Air Reeves and Aliss Nordstrom were the winners. The lucky spot dances were won by Aliss Rollinson and Air Ale Alaster. Aliss Sparrow and Air W atson. Tom Robson’s Christchurch Dance Band supplied the dance music, -extras being played by Air R. Dabourn. Alessrs Bryant and Dabourn were the Alasters of Ceremonies. CROQUET CLUB CARD EVENING. A. very enjoyable card evening was held at the l’esidence of Airs W. 'Denley in aid of the funds of the Waireka Croquet Club. The bridge prize was won bV Mr and Airs W. Reid. CARD SOCIAL AT WILLOWBY, Although the series of fortnightly euchre matches held in the \\ illowbv schoolroom in connection with the school funds has nearly concluded, the attendance is still good. Last Saturday' evening the successful players were :—Mesdames L. IPratley and TMcKay, and Alessrs R. Pearson and H. Turnbull. Prize winners for the season’s aggregate are: —Mrs T. AlcKay and Mrs J.
