DAMAGE TO ROADS.

BY PUBLIC WORKS VEHICLES. MINISTER PROMISES INVESTIGATION. When, some time ago, the Ashburton County Council raised a protest .in regard to the damage done to certain roads in the County by Public Works Department lorries, Mr H. B. Herring, M.P., believing that the Council had a legitimate grievance, approached the Minister (the Lion. R. Semple) suggesting that he should authorise the use of a Department grader to put the roads into reasonable remiir without cost to the Council. In a letter to the Council to-day, Mr Herring states that the Minister on that occasion had an investigation into the position, but there had so far been no announcement. Mr Herring added that following his reading of the report of the Council’s discussion at its meeting last Friday, he was again pressing the question with the Minister.
