TEAMS FOR TUCKER TROPHY. Two teams from the Ashburton Catholic Club will ho entered, for tho Tucker Trophy public speaking and debating contest at the forthcoming Competitions Society’s festival, it was resolved at tho weekly meeting of tho club last evening, when the president (Mr J. L. Connell) presided. A debate was arranged against the Ashburton Foresters on August 8. The club will lie. represented by Messrs V. O’Donoghue, ,1. Bradley, and V. J. Croquer. “That the advent of machinery has boon a greater benefit to secondary industries than to primary industries,” is tho title of the club debate which will be hold next Monday evening. The teams will bo Messrs J. L. and P. Connell and Messrs M. L. Croquer and P. Flannery. The financial statement showed, a satisfactory credit balance. A progressive euchre tournament was held in the latter part of the evening.
