INVISIBLE MAN.

ITALIAN’S NEW INVENTION. An Italian scientist, Professor Manciui, of Milan, had invited a few of the leading scientists of his country to dinner. Scarcely were they gathered round the richly-appointed table when the illustrious guests rubbed their eyes in amazement because, on the instant they seated themselves, none of them could see his neighbour nor any of the other guests. Each had the sensation of being absolutely alone at the table. How had this sudden eclipse of the others come about It 1 w T as because the dinner was being used to demonstrate the latest invention of Professor Mancini; an apparatus which renders man invisible! More perfect than the X-rays, which only make the flesh invisible, the “Mancini rays” hide the bones from view. The effect produced by the experiment was all the more striking, in that at certain moments the chairs of the guests became visible but not their occupants. The latter did not experience any sensation under the direct action of the rays.

The invention lias boon patented and will bo of groat use in the theatre, where" it will permit of the realising of hitherto-undreamed of scenic effects, but its most important application will be in the military field, because it will be able to conceal from the enemy, batteries, advance posts, airplanes in full flight, and any other visible objects.
