THE WEATHER.
FROST OF FIVE DEGREES TO-DAY
Although it was chilly and somewhat misty early this morning, when five degrees cf frost were registered, the day was all that could be desired for the time of the year. Rain threatened for a time last evening and indeed one point was recorded, but later in the nightconditions changed, to become clear and frosty. The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 61.7 degrees, and the thermometer reading dropped to 33.6 degrees in the coldest spell this morning. The bare meter stood at 29.64 inches at 9 a.m. to-day.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: The last of the recent series of shallow westerly depressions passed eastward last night. An anti-cyclone still covers the Tasman Sea, but has decreased, in intensity. In the meantime pressure has been falling rapidly over South-eastern Australia. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Light to moderate westerly or southwesterly winds prevailing. A few isolated showers in the high country, hut weather mainly fine. Mild day but cold night temperatures, with some frosts. Seas moderate, hut vvitli a considerable southerly swell.
