BREEDING OF HORSES.
PROPOSALS TO ENCOURAGE. UTILITY ANIMAL WANTED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Alay 26. The Government proposals for the encouragement. of the breeding of horses was mentioned by the Alinister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) when he attended a meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union to-day. Air Parry said that when he took office he deplored the fact that in New Zealand horse-breeding was going by the board. It appeared that there was a dire need for a movement to encourage farmers to breed horses of a good type. He find suggested that New Zealand ought to try to import a class of stallion suitable for breeding horses.
Replying to a question, the Minister said that the hunter was a great horse for ordinary purposes and for recreation in farming bommunities. Hunt clubs’ rights and interests would he protected. There was no reason, he said, why the measures proposed should not be extended to cover every form of horse that New Zealand wanted. What was wanted was a utility horse. There was no limit to the scheme.
