LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

RAKAIA AND HORNBY DRAW. In the League match at Christchurch, Rakaia made a bold bid for victory against Hornby at Hornby, but could not foot it with tlie Hornby forwards in the last quarter, the game ending in a draw, 15 all. AVhat promised to be a really spectacular game was slowed up by the Hornby forwards, who, however, took their role properly. On the day a good open game would have ended in a win for Rakaia. Hornby, however, played shrewdly in the second spell, the forwards keeping the play tight for the greater part. Horgan was the hero of the Rakaia team,, l-eing responsible for no fewer than 12 points. He was the outstanding back for Rakaia. Buchanan and AA r alsh went well in the forwards. On the other hand, AV. Dunn was Hornby’s hero, kicking no fewer than five goals in as many attempts. From the kick-off Rakaia hammered away at the Hornby line, until Horgan took a difficult pass and went over easily. He also converted the try. After Hendry had failed with a penalty for Hornby, Horgan ran right through, but failed with the kick at goal. From this on the Hornby forwards made play tighter, having a definite territorial advantage, during which Dunn kicked three goals. Just before the interval, Horgan streaked away and passed to Buchanan, who went over for an unconverted try, making the half-time score: Rakaia H Hornby ... ... G From the kick-off the Hornby forwards swept through, Wooclgate scoring and Hendry goaling. The Hornby forwards continued to dominate play, but were not brilliant enough to penetrate the defence. However, there were four penalty' goals kicked, Dunn kicking two for the home team, while Horgan kicked two for Rakaia. Infringements no doubt cost Bakaia the game, but the team undoubtedly will improve. The final score was: Rakaia ... ... ... 15 Hnrnbv ... ... ... 13
