ASHBURTON SOLDIERS’ CLUB

CREDIT BALANCE OF £l9l 15s 8d

Empowered by the resolution passed at the special meeting of the Ashburton Returned Soldiers’ Club last October the committee of the Returned Soldiers’ Association took over the management of the club’s affairs, states the report of the Club, to be presented at its annual meeting this evening A sub-committee of the Returned Soldiers’ Association executive was appointed and with three nominees of the Club, a working committee called the House Committee was formed, subject to the authority of the full Returned Soldiers’ Association executive. The main result of the year’s activities was the remodelling of the Club rooms. The caretaker’s quarters were now contained upstairs and he and his family would, as a result, be in greater comfort, and with improved facilities for handling the affairs of the club. The large room downstairs should prove a boon for socials and the larger gatherings of members and their wives, in social entertainment. There was yet work to be done as finances permitted, and the policy had been to see the money in prosimct before commencing each portion of the work. It was hoped that this work would be the means of bringing increased social life and increased numbers to the club. The year commenced with a. credit balance of £4B 17s 3d and finished with a credit balance of £l9l 15s Sd.
