HOUSE RENOVATION.
LOAN Si FROM THE GOVERNMENT
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 24. According to advice received by the City Council, the Government is waiting for a full analysis of the data gathered in the Dominion-wide housing survey before considering measures to assist owners in the renovation of dwellings. The council in November last received a report from its town planning committee, saying that many propertyowners would be unable to find the money required for reconditioning dwellings which the survey showed to be below a reasonable standard as habitations. On the committee’s recommendation, it was decided to suggcst to the Government that it should advance money for the purpose at a rate not exceeding 4 per- cent., either to the property owners direct or to the council for relending. It was reported to-night that the Hon. T. Bloodworth, M.L.C., had made representations on behalf of the council, and had been informed by the Minister for Finance l(th© Hon. W. Nash) that the proposals had been considered along with the recently-passed (State Advances Corporation__Bill, but that it had been'deemed advisable to withhold any action until the results of the housing survey had been analysed, and comprehensive measures devised to deal with slums and sub-standard houses. The council resolved that Mr Bloodworth be thanked for his efforts and the matter was referred, to the town, planning committee for a report at an appropriate time.
