THE WEATHER.
OVERCAST SKY AGAIN. Dull, cool weather was experienced in Ashburton again to-day. Conditions were slightly more settled than yesterday, but the sky was heavily overcast and a light southerly wind; was ingCold temperatures have been the rule in the last few days. The maximum yesterday was 56 degrees and the inside minimum last night 44.5 degrees. The barometer at 9 o’clock this morning had risen to 29.92 inches from 29.78 inches yesterday morning.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather-: General inference: The depression recently experienced is moving away eastward and the barometers are rising generally over the Dominion, with the approach of an anticyclone across the South Tasman Sea. Pressure is still, however, relatively low to the north. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:
Moderate to strong southerly to south-easterly winds, reaching gale force at times in exposed positions. Weather cold, changeable and gradually improving. Seas rough.
