SEVERE 'QUAKES.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS ROCKER.

(United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Bay, 9.5 a.m.) HONOLULU, January 23. A strong earthquake of two minutes’ duration was felt extensively at Waikiki. The crowds stampeded from the Waikiki Theatre, which rocked violently. Similarly stores and buildings down town also rocked. The earthquake gradually increased in volume. 'Telephones were partially disrupted but jio serious damage is reported so far. It is stated that three sharp shocks w- to accompanied by a blinding Hash in the sky, visible twenty miles away. Kauai reported two shocks simultaneously. The severest quake was reported at Hilo. An official in charge of the University of Hawaii seismograph reported that' all instruments were shattered. It is reported from. Maui that the stores were damaged.
