PAY FOR DAIRY WORKERS.
A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION.
DECISIONS OF FARMERS’ UNION
A difference in opinion about detail of holidays for farm workers was pointed out at the meeting this afternoon of the Mid-Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union, at which the president (Mr L. O. Oakley) presided. The Dominion secretary gave details of holidays for workers on dairy farms, at the full rate of pay with half boarding allowance at 8s 9d a week. Mr J. Carr said that the Dominion president (Mr W. W. Mulholland), the Dominion secretary and the head of the Labour Department differed 0,11 the subject, In this case, how could the working farmer be expected to understand the matter?
The president said, that it was interesting to know that those who should know differed. The letter was received.
The president welcomed Mr C. Hilgendorf (Lauriston branch delegate) /and Mr W. Mulligan (Mayfield Young Farmers’ Club). In connection with the Mid-Canter- 1 bury remit, that the attention of the Minister for Industries and Commerce he drawn to the substantial increase in the price of spare parts for farm machinery and that an explanation be sought for the reason for such an increase, the Dominion executive referred the remit- back for figures to substaiv tiate the case.
The president said that the particu lars had been sent.
A report on the recent Dominion executive meeting was received by tlio group delegate (Mr J. Mulcare). The Dominion Executive forwarded a. preliminary notice of the annual shooting match, stating that match conditions would apply this year.
