Said to be directly due to happenings at the fire in the Majestic Theatre on August 9 last, the resignation of the Superintendent of the. Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade (Mr L. 3. Kidd) was handed in to-da.v. It will take effect as from February 2. Superintendent Kidcl has been a member of the Brigade for over 30 years, and has been m charge of the organisation for two and a half years. The rsignation, a "Guardian” reporter was toldi to-day on the best authority, was largely due. to unpleasantness that had been aroused in certain official quarters as a result of the Superintendent’s handling of the theatre fire, and also because of statements he made to the "Guardian” the day after the fire.
