A LARGE AMOUNT HANDLED. SMALL SUM OUTSTANDING. All rates not paid or posted to the Ashburton Borough Council yesterday will be liable to a penalty of 10 per cent., but only a small sum was outstanding when the Council’s office closed yesterday. The Council stall handled a large amount yesterday and more.was received in the mail this morning. The total rate struck was £12,012 13s 2d, and the amount received up to last night was £11,264 10s Id, leaving £748 3s Id outstanding. This collection compares extremely well with that made last year at the time the penalty became due.
