A fracas took place at the corner of Madras Street and Moorhouse Avenue last night, as a result of Hhicli an elderly man, Mr Thomas Hawtin, Avas seriously Avounded and is uoav in the Christchurch Hospital in a loav condition, suffering from a sheath knife Avound in the throat. HaAvtin’s condition is such that it is impossible for the police to intervieAV him. This morning William George Boyd Avas charged: that Avith intent to do bodily harm he Avounded Thomas HaAVtin. Boyd Avas described as a labourer, aged 54, of no fixed abode. He was remanded for a week.
