THE WOOL SALES
PRICES AT WANGANUI TO-DAY. little change in good sorts. FRANCE AND GERMANY BUYING. IJt'er Press Association.) WANGANUJ, This Day. At the Wanganui wool sale to-day ordinary crossbred was a halfpenny down on the rates at Wellington, and a farthing down on those at the Napier sale. Good lambs* wool was a penny down on prices at Wellington. There is not much change in good wools.
France and Germany are competing, mostly within decided limits.
THE LONDON SALES. ACTIVE COMPETITION. (Receved This Day, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, January 19. At the wool sales 7629 bales were offered, including 1220 New Zealand, and 6705 were sold. A good selection met active competition from the Home trade and the Continent, with Russia also buying. Rates were fully maintained. Competition somewhat slackened, sellers’ limits causing rather more withdrawals. The actual turnover, however, is substantial with firm prices. Messrs D. Dawson, iSo.n and Company, commenting on t'he outlook, say they consider the future depends largely upon outside developments of a general nature. The output of the iron and steel trades is a barometer to watch during the next few months. A reasonable price for wool should ultimately bring a fresh demand and enlarged outlets. We are rapidly approaching the time when wool will again prove a sound investment.
