LOSS ON TOUR OF JAPANESE. WELLINGTON, This Day. A financial loss of £229 on the tour of the Japanese athletes, Togami and Murakoso, was reported at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. The national cross-country championships in 1938 were allotted to the WestCoast, and the track and field championships in 1939 to Hawke’s Bay. It was decided to invite Australia to send a return team to the cross-coun-try championships next year. MATTHEWS IN FORM. CHRISTCHURCH, November 30. C. H. Matthews, the Canterbury Olympic athletic, and a candidate for the Empire Games team, ran a mile in 4min 17sec at Lancaster Park at a handicap meeting this evening. He and V. P. Boot are both considered to be in better form than when sent to the Olympic games.
