A ROSE SHOW
A GOOD DISPLAY MADE. TINWALD PRESBYTERIANS. THE WINNING EXHIBITS. There was a good display of roses and other flowers, together with vegetables, produce, and cookery, at the Rose" Show held in the Tinwald Central Hall on Saturday afternoon. Mr E. Buchanan, of Ashburton, in opening the show, congratulated the exhibitors on being able to produce such good blooms in view of the adverse season, and said that he thought the nurseries of Canterbury and of Milliehamp Bros, were second to none. The Rev. D. IX MacLachlan thanked the speaker for opening the show, arid referred to the great help given by Milliehamp Bros, during the last thirteen years. The organiser of the show was again Mr W. Mac Kay, and Mr D. MacMillan acted as secretary in the absence of Miss Doak. The Premier Bloom was that of Mrs H. D. Gunn (Lady Inchiquin). Rose Section. Prize-winners were:— Red Roses—Mrs J. In the evening a programme was given by Miss F. Ford (pianoforte), Messrs Ross Brothers and E. Harper (instrumental trio), Ruby Colville (song), Peggy Robertson (recitation), Miss Hazel Bell (guitar, accompanist© Mrs Chapman), Mr E. Norrish (song), Miss F. Ford (song). The children’s fancy dress was judged bv Miss Cruickshanks, the first prize being won by “The Chinaman,” Gilmour Elec; and “Lady in Blue,” Leith Gunn, and “Karitane Nurse,” Helen Norrish, were equal second. Prizes were also given for other entrants who deserved praise. Supper was later supplied to all- present by the ladies, and a very pleasant day brought to a. close. The Rev. D. D.
