(From Our Own Correspondent*.) LYNDHURST. THE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The monthly meeting of the Lyndhurst Women’s Institute was held 1 recently. Mrs P. Prebble (vice-presi-dent) presided. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs JR-. E. Limbrick (president) in her illness. An interesting demonstration on "Points of Flowers” and “Making of Posies” was given by Mrs G. Clark (Ashburton). Mr and Mrs G. Clark judged the competitions with the following results: —Bowl of flowers, Miss Prebble 1, Miss J. Gilmour 2, Miss Rowe 3. Jar of flowers: Miss Prebble 1, Miss J. Gilmour 2, Mrs Prebble 3, Specimen bloom, Miss Prebble 1, Mrs Gadd 2, Mrs Drummond 3. iPosy, Mrs Prebble 1, Mrs Henderson 2, Miss Prebble 3. Daintiest plate of bread and butter: Mrs J. H. McKendry 1, Mrs Pilbrow 2, Mrs Brawdey S. , The hostesses were Mesdames W. Cook, F. Scott, O. Symes, and Miss K. Soott. MAYFIELD. / THE FARMERS’ UNION. The monthly meeting of the Mayfield branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the rooms of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Mr J. W. Kingan presided. It was decided to make a trip to Redcliff to inspect the irrigation scheme there early in December. The president and secretary were appointed to arrange transport and itinerary. WILLOW BY. METHODIST WOMEN’S AUXILIARY. A meeting of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary was held at the residence of Mrs G. H. B. Lill yesterday afternoon. Mrs Avery presided and conducted the devotional exercises. Sister Mildred, of Ashburton, gave a comprehensive report of the conference recently held in Auckland. The Presidential quarterly address was read by Mrs Avery and letters from overseas and Homebase sisters were read by Misses M. and B. Lill. A motion of sympathy in their recent bereavement was passed with Mes- , dames R. and T. Williams, of Waterton. A letter of cheer was directed to be sent to Miss Wootten in her illuess. A solo was sung by Mrs A. S. Hayman, Miss M. Lill’ accompanying. The sales table was under the supervision of Mrs Lattimore and, was well patronised. Afternoon tea was served at the conclusion of the meeting.
