ST. JAMES THEATRE. “Sinner Take All,” which shows at the St. James Theatre to-night and tomorrow, will be proved to be a picture as intriguing as its title. It is a happy combination of mystery, romance and humour, in unusual settings, produced in the manner of Metro-Gold wynMayer with lavish attention to detail. The scenes range from tiie luxury of Park Avenue penthouses to the squalor of lower East Side tenements, nor is the Broadway night club sector omitted. Others reveal the roaring and ordered confusion of a metropolitan newspaper, at press time, with a big story breaking. Lucien Hubbard, a former star newspaper man, produced, with Sam Marx collaborating. The picture is based on the novel by Whitman Chambers. Errol Taggart was the director, and has accomplished an excellent job. Bruce Cabot and Margaret Lindsay play the romantic leads w’ith artistry.
MAJESTIC THEATRE. Kent Taylor, Arline Judge and Wendy Barrie head a group of Hollywood’s younger stars in Paramount’s college murder-mystery, “The Clock Strikes 8,” which shows at the Majestic Theatre to-night and to-morrov'. The plot of the story centres about Wendy Barrie, the comely young miss from England, who in the picture is supposed to have a fatal fascination for the college sheiks. Two of the boys are mysteriously murdered and the life of a third is threatened before Kent Taylor and Arline Judge solve the mystery by dint of super-sleuthing. William Frawlev, William Benedict and Eddie Nugent are prominently featured.
There’s a lot of fun behind the scenes in the making of some radio programmes, and Paramount has put a good-sized chunk of it into its comedyromance, “Easy to Take,” also to be screened. Background for the picture is largely set in a radio studio.
