Bromwich, replacing McGrath, Avho is in bed with a sore throat, defeated Reyes 6-2, 6-2, 7-5 in the first set of the singles in the Davis Cup contest. In the first set four games Avent to deuce. In the second there wore long rallies, Bromwich winning tAvo love games. In the third Reyes’ effective back-hand took the last game to deuce five times.
Quist defeated Tapia 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Quist Avon the first four games and Tapia the fifth and seventh. In the second set Tapia Avon the first tAvo, Quist the next three, and Tapia the sixth and seventh.
In the third set Tapia won the first three, Quist the fourth, Tapia . the fifth after two deuces, Quist the sixth, seventh and eighth, and Tapia the ninth and tenth at 30. In thejourth set Tapia, serving, Avon tlio first to love, Quist the next three, Tapia the fifth, Quist the sixth, Tapia the seventh, and Quist the eighth. Quist Avas in difficulty at times through Tapia high-bouncing tlio ball, resulting in net faults.

In the Davis Cup match at Montreux, SAvitzerland eliminated Ireland. Fischer defeated Lyttelton Rogers, 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-2. Elmer defeated McVeagh, 5-7, 8-6, 6-4, 6-1. . . At Budopest, Belgium eliminated Hungary. La Croix defeated Gabory, 6-2, 6-4, 6-1. „ „ _ Dallos defeated Deborman, i-o, 3-6, 6-2, 3-3. Deborman retired oiving to cramp.
