EFFORT TOWARD SETTLEMENT.

A suggestion that returned soldiers’ organisations in NeAV Zealand and Australia should take a hand in trying to bring about a settlement of the dispute between the Dominion and the Comnionwealth regarding potatoes and oranges Avas made by! Mr W. E. Leadley (president of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association) at the annual reunion of the Australian Imperial Forces Association on Saturday evening.
“Year by year this dispute drags on and! the people of both countries are suffering in consequence,” Mr Leadley said. “To my mind the time has arrived Avlien the Anzacs in NeAV Zealand and Australia should make a determined effort to end this dispute, and I suggest that the NeAV Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association conference and the conference of the Returned Soldiers and Sailors’ Imperial League of Australia should both pass resolutions strongiy urging their respective Governments to settle this dispute at the earliest possible moment, as it is not shared by the people and is contrary to the spirit of Anzac.”
