PERSONAL.

Dr. G. W. Moore left Ashburton yesterday to relieve a practitioner at Milton.

Constable J. Moore, of the Ashburton Police, has been transferred on promotion to take charge of the station at Blackball. Constable N. M. Boag (Christchurch) will be transferred to Ashburton.

Lieutenant W. H. Osborne (conductor of the Timaru Municipal Band), who recently accepted a similar appointment at Ashburton, was a visitor to the town yesterday.

The annual conference of the Institute of Town Clerks, held at Timaru yesterday, carried a. vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr W. Patterson.

Mrs S. Holmes and Miss Jackson represented the Ashburton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union at the annual conference of the Union which began at Christchurch today.

Mrs H. Stephenson, who will leave on Friday for England, was farewelled yesterday afternoon by members of the committee of the Ashburton Cavendish Club, who extended to her wishes for a pleasant trip.

Mr T. H. Blain, who has been closely connected with various sports organisations in Rangiora, will leave on March 22 for Methven, where he has acquired a business. At a meeting of the Rangiora Cricket Club last night, his resignation as secretary was accepted with regret.

Mr N. J. Dew, M.A., of the staff of the Motueka District High School, has been appointed headmaster of the Awamako School, Otago, but will remain at the Motueka School till the end of the term. Prior to going to Motueka, Mr Dow was headmaster of the Seafiekl School.

A motion of sympathy with Mr W. H. Amos in the death of his mother was passed at the meeting of the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society last evening.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr H. R. C. McElrea was carried, at the meeting of the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society last evening, members standing in silence.
