FIRE BRIGADES.
OFFICERS OF ASSOCIATION. (Per Press Association.) NELSON, March 9. 'Flic annual conference of the United Fire Brigades’ Association was concluded to-day. The following officers were elected:— President, Superintendent A. J. Bennett (Nelson); vice-presidents, Secretary D. L. Ferguson (Gisborne), Foreman C. H. Carey (Patea); treasuer, Mr C. A. Osborne (Oneliunga). Gold stars for 25 years’ service were presented to Firemen R. W. Dayman (Nelson), W. C. Draper (Hastings), T. H. Seymour (Dunedin), A. White (Grey mouth). It was resolved that the executive inquire about the possibility of the Government reducing the license fees for motor fire engines. Invitations for the next conference were received from Whangarei, New Plymouth, and Thames. A vote will be taken by affiliated brigades as soon as possible.
A motion was passed requesting the Minister to re-embody provisions in the new motor vehicles regulations making prosecution possible where a fire hose was run over by vehicles. Last year’s officers as members of the institute wore all re-elected, with the addition of Superintendent Morrison (Christchurch), who was elected a vice-president.
