THE QUESTION OF CONTRACTS. PREMIER REPLIES TO CRITICS. (Per Press Association. j OAMARU, This Day. Interviewed regarding the Builders’ Federation’s resolution criticising the Government housing scheme, the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) said: “If builders can give us a price and do the job the same as the large contractor they will get the work so that all builders can ho kept going. We are prepared to deal generously, but it must he remembered that we are handling public money! The scheme was discussed by the Government with architects, and all possible evidence was taken from all quarters to satisfy us that the scheme was the best. If the smaller builders have not the necessary plant to do the work on a large scale, but can satisfy us they can build as cheaply, let them quote prices and wo will talk business.”
