ENJOYABLE VISIT.
AUSTRALIAN FARMERS’ PARTY. DAY SPENT IN ASHBURTON. The party of: 24 Australian farmers which visited the Ashburton County yesterday gained a highly favourable impression of the County during a short stay. The vsitors, who are in course of a Dominion tour, thoroughly enjoyed their stay, in which they were taken to several points of interest. The party was in charge of Air W. F. Swift, of the Tourist Department, Wellington, and the arrangements for the visit to Ashburton were made by the Alid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, and the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The visitors were met at Rakaia in the morning by the president of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association (Mr A. N. Grigg) and officers of the Farmers’ Union, and were taken up the River Road to the farm of Mr R. J. Low (Highbank), where an inspection was made of Air Low’s stud sheep and his pastures. Here, the party was (entertained to morning £.en. The trip to Ashburton was made through Aletliven and Winchmore, where the channels for the irrigation scheme were inspected. . . In the afternoon the visiting farmers were taken to Mr J. H. Grigg’s Longbeach estate, where stud sheep and stock were inspected, and tho visitors looked over the station. After afternoon tea, tlio party returned to Ashburton through Flemington and Eiffel ton, and joined the train for Timaru last evening. To-day they will go to the Hermitage, Alount Cook. Tho leader of the party (Mr William Coutts) expressed the thanks ot. the visitors to their hosts at Aslibuiton, and also to tjie two bodies who had arranged their tour ol the Ashburton County.
