A definite assurance that the Labour Government is opposed to conscription in all forms was given by Mr Savage, when <v deputation from the National Peace Council waited on him this ingThe deputation asked that the compulsory clauses in the Defence Act be repealed. Mi’ Savage said there were a lot of Acts on the Statute Books for which, the Government was not responsible, and which would not ibe there much longer. Compulsory military service was one of these. The Government was opposed to conscription in any form.
