WINTON JOCKEY CLUB. ASHAWAY WINS CUP. <Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, February 19. The W'mton Jockey Club’s meeting opened in fine weather. The track was dead, but improving. There was a good attendance, and the totalisator handled 27646 10s, against £5556 10s last year. Concluding results:— Winton Cup, of 185 sovs ; one mile and a quarter.—l (1) Ashaway (H. Phillips) 1,2 (2) Amy Johnson 2, 5 (4) Toreador 3. Won by a head. Time, 2.13. Flying Handicap, of 120 sovs; six furlongs.—l ,(1) Silk Paper (P. Spratt) 1 2 (5) Rebel Chief 2, 5 (6) Silver Lark 3. Won by a neck. Time, 1.16. Winton Steeplechase, of 120 sovs; two miles and a half.—l (1) l* acuities (R. Beale) 1, 4 (5) Black Banner 2, 5 (6) Possum 3. Won by 10 lengths. Time, 5.31. Barkly Handicap, ol : 115 sovs; six furlongs.—l (1) Rodeur (J. W. Jennings) 1, 6 (7) Roseman 2, 4 (6) Island Linnet 3. Won by a length. Time, 1.17 2-5. Hokonui Trot, of 115 sovs; one mile and a half.—4 (7) Happiness (P. W. Creegan) 1, 1 (1) Mountain Lad 2, 6 (6) Vinola 3. Won by three lengths. Time, 3.30. Tradesmen’s Handicap, of 120 sovs; one mile.—3 (5) Half Note (H. Hibberd) 1, 1 (1) Linguist 2, 4 (3) Fairway 3. Won by a head. Time, 1.44 2-5.
