DRIVING BY SUSPECTS URGED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 29. “For doctors, it would be a good thing toward determining a man’s fitness to drive, if in doubtful cases of intoxication the suspected person should be allowed to drive Iris car,” said Dr. A. A. Tennent, when giving evidence as a witness in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., in a case in which a taxi proprietor was charged with being found intoxicated in charge of a motor-car. The Magistrate: It appears to be the only acid test. There would be no danger, because the driving would he doiio under supervision. Dr. Tennent: Doctors would be for this opportunity. The Magistrate: Of course, where the* case :s truly border-line, the verdict must be in the defendant’s favour. Alter hearing the evidence of both sides, tho Magistrate dismissed the case, saying there was a doubt.
