ELDERLY MAN SHOT.

ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE. (Per Press Association).. WELLINGTON, December 25. Having been shot in Hoy Street to-day, John McMillan, aged 79, was admitted to the hospital with a pearifle bullet in his ribs. His condition to-night was satisfactory. A young man was arrested! and will be charged to-morrow with attempted murder. ACCUSED YOUTH REMANDED. WELLINGTON, This Day. lan Gordon Cowan, aged I<, a cashier, was charged before Mr Stilwell, S.M., to-day with the attempted murder of John McMillan, aged /9. Detective Jarrold asked for a remand till next Saturday. The arrest be said, was made yesterday afternoon by Detectives McLennan and Ritchie. The victim was to undergo an operation this morning for the removal ot the bullet. In the circumstances he did not recommend that accused should be allowed liberty. The remand was granted.
