FRUIT AND PRODUCE. THE ASHBURTON MARKET. Strawberries have made their appearance on the Ashburton fruit and produce market. Cooking pears are also again obtainable. A slight increase is shown in several other lines of fruit and produce. Clover seed is a little dearer, and walnuts have increased by a penny a pound. Cooking apples are selling at 6d a case more than last week, and dessert apples are Is a case dearer. Prices are:— Potatoes—Seed Id and Ifd lb. Potatoes —3s a sugar bag, or 6s cental bag, 11s sack. Bacon —9d and lOd a lb. Wheat—Seconds, 12s to 13s a sack. Oats—9s and 10s a sack. Clover Seed'—6d and 7d a lb. Oats—los and 11s sack. Clover Seed—6d a lb. Honey—7£d and 8d lb. Onions —2£d and 3d a lb. Walnuts —8d a lb. Apples—7s to 8s a case. Cooking Apples—4s 6d to 5s a case. Pears—Cooking, 3s and 3s 6d a halfCabbages—Spring, 2d and 3d. Cauliflowers —6s and 8s a dozen. Spinach—2d bunch. Rhubarb—4d to 6d a bundle. Green Peas—ls 6d and 2s a peck. Lettuce —l£d and 2d each. Gooseberries —2d and 2£d a lb. Strawberries —Is 9d and 2s punnet.
GRAIN AND PRODUCE. DUNEDIN MARKET. (Per Press Association.) ; DUNEDIN, November 13. Business in the milling wheat market is practically finished for the season, and there are now few lines to he placed. Fowl wheat is steady at 5s a bushel ex store. An inquiry for Garton oats has set in for a number of North Island ports. This is, however, more an indication that few lines are offering from other South Island ports than that there is an increased demand. The nominal value for milling Cartons is 3s a bushel, sacks, extra, on trucks, country sidings, with A grade worth 2s lOd and B s 2s Sd. The latter prices are equivalent to 3s 6d and 3s 4d a bushel, f.o.b.s.i. Trade in chaff remains unchanged. Medium quality, which is fairly plentiful, is worth £3 15s to £4 a ton, and better quality £4 10s, ex truck, and £5 ex store. Business in old potatoes is irregular, with holders anxious to quit stocks. Round about £4 per ton can be quoted as the ruling price for household use. Odd inquiries are still being received from overseas buyers for dogstail, ryegrass, cowgrass and fescue, but business is spasmodic and is confined to small quantities. Values for these linos and also for cocksfoot and white clover remain steady, with prices unchanged. BRITISH WHEAT MARKET. (United Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, November 12.
