CROQUET.
TOURNEY AT ALLENTON. A progressive croquet tournament, in which members of the Allenton, Ashburton, and Waireka clubs took part, was held on the Allenton lawns yesterday. The winner of the senior prize was Mrs J. F. Oleary (Ashburton), and Mrs R. W. Barr (Allenton) won the junior. METHVEN DEFEATS ASHBURTON. The Methven Croquet Club played the first match of the season on Thursday, when a team played Ashburton in the South Canterbury B grade competition. The match was played on the Methven green, which was in good order. Methven won by 7 games to 2. The details are as follow, Methven names being given first: —• Singles—Mrs Fryer 26 beat Mrs Cowan 18; Mrs NeAvman 26, beat Mrs Saunders 20; Mrjs Robineson 26, beat Miss Moore 10; Mrs Ayers 23, lost to Mrs Samuels 26; Mrs Duff 26, beat Mrs Minogue 15; Mrs Owen 21, lost to Mrs Acton 26. Doubles—Mesdames Fryer and Newman 26, beat Mesdames Cowan and Sounders 6; Mesdames Robinson and Ayerfe 26, beat Miss Moore and Mrs Samueles 11; Mesdames Duff and Owen 26, beat Mesdames Minogue and Acton 8.
