THE WEATHER.
SOUTHERLY CHANGE TO-DAY. Warm sunny weather was experienced in Ashburton this morning. The sky was overcast early, but cleared later, the sun shining brightly. There was a moderate northerly wind. A southerly wind arose in the afternoon and conditions became cool, with the sky heavily overcast. Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder, set in about 3 o’clock. The maximum temperature yesterday was 64.1 degrees, and the inside minimum last night 36.5 degrees. Barometric pressure at 9 o’clock this morning had risen to 29.60 inches from 29.24 inches yesterday morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. ;Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: A secondary depression crossed the Dominion last night and another slight one is crossing the South Island. A moderate anticyclone is approaching from the Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oarnaru is as follows: Moderate to strong southwesterly winds of gale force in places, but decreasing to-morrow. Weather mainly fair but a few isolated showers possible. Cold temperatures, with inland frosts. Seas moderate, but rough offshore.
