RAYNER BEATS AITKEN. BLENHEIM, November 11. Clarrie Rayner (Blenheim) scored his second consecutive win over Billy Aitken (Wellington) when he beat the visitor to-night on points in a 15-round contest. It was a hard, clean bout, fought at a fast clip, with Rayner making headway over the first half of the distance. Aitken finished strongly, landing with stinging, snappy punches. The margin of points was not great. BLATCH TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND. SYDNEY, November 11. The boxer, Alf Blatch, light-weight champion of Australia, will leave for New Zealand on Friday for a series of matches.
ECHO OF LOUIS-SCHMELING BOUT. SUIT FOR £IOO,OOO. Joe Louis, the Detroit Bomber, may not have been able to beat Max Schmeling in the ring on the famous night in June, but lie is going to make an attempt to beat him m the law courts. Recently lie filed sui for £IOO,OOO for libellous allegations said to have been written by Schmeling in a series of articles on how he won. Suits also were filed against the magazine in which the articles appeared and against 1 aul Gallico, one of America’s most famous sporting editors and a personal mend of Schmeling’s, who collaborated m writing the articles. Schmeling accused Louis of deliberately fouling him during the fight under orders from his corner. When told of the suits Schmeling was dumfounded. He
said he had never accused any opponent of unsportsmanlike conduct and he denied that he had so accused Louis. He blamed Gallico for the trouble.
