SUNNY WITH NORTH-WEST WIND Sunny weather was experienced in Ashburton to-day. There was a fairly strong north-west wind and the temperature was warm. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: A rather intense depression crossed the Dominion last night and is being followed by a secondary. Pressure has risen over eastern Australia. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate to strong westerly winds of gale force at times, backing later to southwesterly. Weather changeable and squally with rain at times, becoming cooler. Seas moderate but rough offshore.
