PERSONAL.

Mr- H. E. Herring, M.P., returned to Ashburton from Wellington this morning.

Dr. J. E. Lovelock, the worldfamous athlete, passed through Ashburton this morning hv car on his way to Timaru to continue his tour of Now Zealand.

Mr John Alee, for several years a fields inspector in the Auckland office of the Lands and Survey Department, has been appointed supervising fields inspector of reserves for the South Island.

Air C. W. Hervey was re-elected president of the Canterbury Employers’ Association at the first meeting of the new executive last evening. Messrs J. Murphy and A. E. Kincaid are the vice-presidents.

Mr R. A. Burnett returned to Ashburton this morning after his trip from Tauranga in the Canterbury Aero Club’s new Jubilee Alonospar aeroplane. The flight was interrupted at Wellington for a day on account of had weather.

The Rt. Rev. W. A. R. Fitchett, Bishop of Dunedin, who combines his episcopal office with that of vicar of St. John's Church, Roslyn, has completed 25 yeats in the parish. The silver jubilee of his induction will be celebrated when Airs Fitchett returns from England at the end of this month.

Canon W. G. Williams, vicar of Aramolio, Wanganui, has been appointed to the newly-created post of organiser of Maori church work for the dioceses of Waiapu and Wellington, with headquarters at Napier. He will assist the Bishop of Actea-roa, the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, in the more effective organisation of work in the native pastorates.

Air R. J. Estall (conductor of the Woolston Band) and Air J. J. Osborne (secretary of the -New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association) passed/ through Ashburton this morning to attend the Otago provincial band contest at Gore on Saturday. They were joined at Ashburton by Mr E. R. Hcpwood (conductor of the Ashburton Silver Band and a member of the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association Executive) who will also attend the contest, in which six II grade'bands, four 0 grade hands and nine pipe hands are competing.
