REPLIES TO QUESTIONNAIRE. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND November 11. The chairman of the Taxi Inquiry Committee (Mr P. M. Butler) said today that on an examination of some of the replies to questionnaires submitted by persons in the industry, the indications were that in some eases earnings were being understated. “The reason for thjs is hard to understand,” he said,, “but maybe such persons consider that details in the questionnaires will be given to other Government departments.” Mr Butler emphasised that such was not the case. Any information supplied in the questionnaires would, be treated in the strictest confidence and would not be forwarded to any other Government department. Now that the matter had been made clear a serious view would be taken of the actions of m'en who had made false declarations in forwarding the questionnaire, and a further opportunity would be given those who had made a mistake in un-der-estimating their earnings to rectify this before any further questionnaires were examined.
