COUNTY CENTRES

(From Our Own Correspondent*.) WILLOWBY THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the Willowby School Committee, held in the schoolroom, was presided over by Mr N. Griffith. Mrs Knox, Messrs R. J. Chapman, AV. Harvey and A. AVhiting were also present. It was decided to further discuss the matter of the travelling library next month. The chairman reported the erection of a new gate off Boundary Road. Arrangements in connection with the annual school picnic to be held at Timaru on December 2 were left with Messrs N. Griffith and R. J. Chapman members decided to donate the prizes for running sports. The chairman and secretary were appointed to attend the trimming of the quick fences round the grounds. It was decided to hold the annual break-up ceremony in the AVillowby Hall on December 18. It was stated that as soon as water is available the school baths will be repaired and made fit for swimming. I HINDS. THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Hinds School Committee was held recently, Mr C. AV. Keeley presiding. It was decided to bold the annual picnic at Caroline Bay, Timaru, on December 12. the Maronan School Committee having accepted an invitation to join with Hinds. Family Service. There was a fair attendance at the monthly family service, held in St. Luke’s Anglican Church on Sunday morning. Mr R. H. Biggar (Ashburton) conducted the service. Heavy Rain. # After a week of north-west wind to gale force at times, heavy rain set in on Saturday morning and continued all day. Sunday was fine but dull. A light shower fell early this morning. The rain will be of great benefit to crops and gardens, which were starting to dry up. The Tennis Club. The committee of the Hinds Tennis Club held a meeting recently. It was decided to bold a dance next Tuesday. The club competition was won by H. Donaldson.
