Dr. Clyde Fenton crashed in dense jungle near the Darwin aerodrome and his "Gipsy Moth burst into flames immediately it struck the ground. Dr. Fenton and his passenger, Mr Eric Johnson (supervisor for the Eastern Extension Telegraph at Darwin) managed to struggle clear. Both were admitted to hospital suffering from minor injuries. Dr. Fenton had just taken off for Bathurst Island, where an epidemic of influenza is raging among the aborigines, when the engine began to lose revolutions. Dr. Fenton attempted to land on the golf links, but the ’plane lost altitude rapidlyl and crashed into the trees, being destroyed.
